SGPA to CGPA Calculator

Calculate CGPA from semester SGPAs, with optional credit weighting per semester.

Weighted: CGPA = Σ(SGPA × credits) ÷ Σ credits. Without credits, it's the plain average of your SGPAs.

How CGPA Is Calculated from Semester SGPAs

CGPA is the weighted average of your semester SGPAs, where the weights are each semester's credits: CGPA = Σ(SGPA × credits) ÷ Σ credits. When all semesters carry equal credits, this collapses to the simple average — which is why the calculator makes credits optional.

Worked Example

Sem 1: SGPA 8.2 (22 credits), Sem 2: SGPA 8.8 (24 credits) → CGPA = (8.2×22 + 8.8×24) ÷ 46 = 8.51. The plain average would say 8.5 — close here, but the gap grows when credit loads differ.

Once you have your CGPA, convert it onward with the CGPA to Percentage Calculator, the CGPA to Marks Calculator for forms that want raw marks, or the US 4.0 GPA converter for study-abroad applications. To compute one semester's SGPA from individual courses, use the College GPA Calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is CGPA calculated from SGPA?
With credits: CGPA = sum of (SGPA x semester credits) / total credits. Without credit information, it is the simple average of all semester SGPAs.
Should I use the credit-weighted or simple average?
Use credit weighting if your semesters carry different credit loads — it matches how universities compute CGPA. If every semester has equal credits, both give the same answer.
Can I calculate CGPA with only some semesters done?
Yes — enter the semesters you have completed. The result is your current CGPA, which will shift as future SGPAs are added.
