Project-17A is an advanced version of the Shivalik-class (Project-17) frigates. The project aims to develop state-of-the-art frigates equipped with modern stealth technology, high automation, enhanced survivability, network-centric warfare capability, and modular construction techniques. It is one of the flagship projects of the Indian Navy's modernization programme and indigenous shipbuilding initiative.

Key Technical and Combat Capabilities

INS Mahendragiri features a low radar signature, reduced acoustic and infrared signatures, an advanced electronic warfare system, and a high degree of automation. It is capable of conducting a wide range of missions, including Air Defence, Surface Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Electronic Warfare (EW) operations with high efficiency.
