PM Modi Honoured with Indonesia's Highest Civilian Award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with Indonesia's highest civilian award, the 'Bintang Adipurna', during his visit to Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto conferred this honour in recognition of his contribution to strengthening the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Modi became the second Indian Prime Minister, after Jawaharlal Nehru, to receive this honour. On this occasion, both nations signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) across several sectors, including defence, critical minerals, agriculture, maritime cooperation, emerging technologies, and education. This visit is considered significant for imparting new momentum to India-Indonesia bilateral relations and Indo-Pacific cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the second Indian Prime Minister, after Jawaharlal Nehru, to receive this honour.

Previously, Jawaharlal Nehru was posthumously conferred this honour in 1995, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence.

Key Areas of Bilateral Cooperation

During delegation-level talks between India and Indonesia, an agreement was reached to further strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including trade, defence, maritime security, digital technology, health, education, and culture.

Agreements Signed

Both countries signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as defence, critical minerals, agriculture, steel, maritime cooperation, and emerging technologies. Additionally, an agreement was reached to establish a branch campus of IIM Bangalore in Jakarta.
