In December 2018, the historic Ross Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands—which served as a major administrative center during British rule—was renamed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island. As part of this same renaming initiative, Havelock Island was renamed Swaraj Dweep and Neil Island was renamed Shaheed Dweep.
